Free Speech Triumphs: Dr. Kunadhasan's Stand Against AHPRA Censorship & Creepy SurveillanceHow One Medical Professional Found Relief with a FWA Roster
In our previous blog post, we highlighted the plight of Dr Kunadhasan, an ethically-minded, patient-focused doctor who has faced unjustified scrutiny from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Known for her passionate advocacy of evidence-based, individualised care and her vocal stand against one-size-fits-all health mandates, Dr Kunadhasan has found herself in the line of fire, facing prolonged investigations and potential regulatory action due to anonymous complaints.
AHPRA, despite lacking clear legal grounds, has repeatedly requested explanations from Dr Kunadhasan and threatened her professional standing, in response to her questioning and challenging the status quo in the interest of public health. This problematic behaviour echoes AHPRA's tendency to silence any deviation from their prescribed medical communication norms, which threatens their authority and control.
It's worth noting that Dr Kunadhasan is not alone in her plight. A worrying pattern has emerged of medical practitioners facing similar ordeals, leading to a culture of fear and silence in the Australian medical profession.
We are delighted to share the news that, following a six-month-long investigation, which encompassed two comprehensive responses - one of which was a notably extensive letter, the senior investigators from AHPRA have elected not to proceed further. This marks a significant victory, underlining the defensibility of moderated free speech, even in instances of critical discourse regarding official strategy.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Kunadhasan for her steadfastness and bravery in upholding her ethical principles and beliefs. Dr. Kunadhasan’s commitment to Free Speech and Medical Ethics is an example of true courage. We also appreciate everyone who stood by Dr. Kunadhasan, advocating for an end to the unjust treatment of healthcare professionals.
Their support reinforces our belief that medical practice should not be suppressed by bureaucratic intervention. Instead, it must evolve organically, guided by the best research available and the practitioners' commitment to effective patient care. As exemplified by Dr. Kunadhasan's case, bureaucratic intrusion and censorship should never be allowed to compromise patient health and outcomes.
